Greenleaf Gardens, incorporated in 2005, is an innovative 501-(c)-3 non-profit corporation that is committed to providing hands-on, garden-based education opportunities in sustainability to New York State residents of all ages. Greenleaf Gardens implements and facilitates food producing gardens, composting systems, and sustainability education programs in schools, developmentally disabled residential communities, juvenile detention centers and prisons in Westchester county.

We all recognize that food is a fundamental need, yet most of us are becoming increasingly remote from the process of cultivating it. Our mission is to educate and engage communities in environmental stewardship by providing education in the art of sustainable agriculture. It is essential for our health and survival that we reconnect with our natural resources.

The gardens provide students and community members with the opportunity to interact with and manage all aspects of a sustainable system. They will explore system elements such as: the soil food web and the recycling of nutrients through composting and begin to build their community through cooperation and awareness. As they experience and help guide the dynamic interactions that occur between all of the garden system components they will become aware of the complexity and interdependence that creates the balance and health that defines a sustainable ecosystem.
